Abstract

Telah berhasil dibuat ferogel dengan menggunakan partikel ferit (Fe304) berukuran nanometer yang diperoleh dari bahan dasar pasir besi . Ferogel dibuat dengan mencampur partikel ferit berukuran nanometer ke dalam polivinil-alkohol (PVA) yang dicampur air sebagai media pengikat silang. Parameter yang diteliti adalah pengaruh komposisi PVA: air dan konsentrasi ferit. Komposisi PVA : air dibuat bervariasi yaitu 13 : 100; 18 : 100; 23 : 100; 28 : 100; dan 33: 100. Konsentrasi ferit bervariasi dari 2,5%-10% herat. Selanjutnya diamati sifat magneto-elastik ferrogel dengan mengamati pemuluran dan penyimpangan ferogel terhadap medan magnet. Diukur pula modulus elastisitas (Young) nya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposisi PVA- air yang tepat untuk membuat ferogel adalah 23 : 100. Ferogel menunjukkan pemuluran dan penyimpangan dalam pengaruh medan magnet dan/cembali ke bentuk semula ketika medan magnet ditiadakan. Kemagnetan, pemuluran dan penyimpangan ferogel tergantung pada konsentrasi Fe304, sedangkan komposisi PVA : air berpengaruh pada modulus elastisitas ferogel .

Ferrogels have been fabricated using nano sized magnetic particles (Fe3O4) synthesized from natural iron sands. Ferrogels were prepared by mixing ferrite nanoparticles and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in water as crosslink agent. Effect of ratio PVA: water : ferrite particles on magneto-elastic properties of ferrogel were studied. The compositional ratio of PVA: water were 13 : 100; 18 : 100; 23 : 100; 28 : 100; and 33 : 100, while the concentration of ferrite nanoparticles ranged from 2,5 to 10wt%. Magneto-elastic properties of ferrogel were investigated over their elongation and deflection in the presence of magnetic field and also the Young' s modulus. The results showed that composition of PVA-water 23:100 is the best for ferrogels with respect to their elongation and deflexion in magnetic field. When the magnetic field is absent, ferrogel goes back to its original shape. Magnetism, elongation, and deflection of ferrogel depend strongly on the ferrite's concentration, whereas elastic modulus depend strongly on the composition of PVA-water.
