Abstract

The increasing demand for electrical energy has resulted in an increase in the number of fossil fuel plants that can affect the environment due to the resulting pollution. Therefore, renewable energy sources is one solution to overcome these problems. However, the use of renewable energy sources has a negative impact on the electric power system, namely intermittency and uncertainty which will have an impact on reducing the value of system inertia resulting in a lack of damped system and problems with system frequency deviation. So we need an additional equipment that can overcome these problems, namely using Virtual Inertia Control based on a Battery Energy Storage System to overcome the problem of low inertia system. Therefore, this Final Project investigates the influence of adding Virtual Inertial Controller based on a Battery Energy Storage System on Small Signal Stability using modal analysis method. From the results of the analysis, it was found that the use of Virtual Inertial Control based on a Battery Energy Storage System in the system was able to improve the Small Signals Stability by providing an increasing damping ratio value and the eigenvalue shifting away from the unstable area. Besides that, it can also improve the frequency response, generator rotor speed response, and voltage systems response which can reduce the deviation value of each of these parameters. However, this control cannot improve the rotor angle stability on the generator because it causes the generator rotor angle response in transient conditions to move further away from the rotor angle reference value before an event in the system
