Abstract

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) adalah sebuah universitas yang berlokasi di Indonesia. Peraturan kurikulum harus menjadi acuan bagi mahasiswa untuk memilih mata kuliah. Penelitian sebelumnya telah berhasil menggunakan metode Analisis Evolusi Klaster/Cluster Evolution Analysis (CEA) untuk menganalisis kesesuaian jumlah mata kuliah yang diambil mahasiswa ITS terhadap rancangan kurikulum. CEA digunakan untuk menunjukkan migrasi cluster perilaku siswa. Variabel yang terlibat dalam penelitian sebelumnya adalah jumlah mata kuliah yang cocok diambil dan Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) setiap semester. Mata kuliah yang ditawarkan oleh ITS memiliki jumlah SKS yang berbeda. Oleh karena itu, maka kemungkinan tingkat kesesuaiannya akan berbeda dengan penelitian sebelumnya. Studi sebelumnya belum menganalisis perilaku pengambilan mata kuliah dengan memasukkan tingkat kesesuaian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis perilaku pengambilan mata kuliah terhadap kinerja. Dataset mata kuliah mahasiswa ITS dianalisis menggunakan metode CEA. Perilaku yang dianalisis dalam penelitian ini diamati melalui performa mahasiswa dan kesesuaian terhadap desain kurikulum. Performa mahasiswa ditinjau melalui IPK tiap semester (IPK Semester). Nilai kesesuaian dirumuskan melalui jumlah SKS yang diambil, jumlah SKS yang dirancang dalam rancangan kurikulum, dan beban maksimum SKS untuk setiap semester yang dirancang dalam peraturan akademik. Perilaku divisualisasikan sebagai pola urutan. Ada tiga macam pola urutan: pola urutan untuk seluruh program sarjana, tahap persiapan, dan tahap sarjana. Studi ini menghasilkan saran strategi pengambilan mata kuliah bagi mahasiswa agar dapat mempertahankan nilai IPS di atas 3.00. Salah satu contoh stretagi yang disarankan adalah jika mahasiswa mengalami penurunan nilai IPS, berdasarkan hasil riset, mahasiswa dapat disarankan mengambil jumlah SKS sesuai dengan desain kurikulum untuk dapat meraih IPS yang lebih baik pada semester berikutnya.

Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is a university located in Indonesia. Upon becoming ITS students, curriculum guidelines must be referenced to choose courses. Previous research has succeeded in using the Cluster Evolution Analysis (CEA) method to analyze the suitability of the number of courses taken by ITS student against the curriculum design. CEA is used to show the cluster migration of student behavior. The variables involved in the previous study are the number of suitable courses taken and each semester's Grade Point Average (GPA). Since courses offered by ITS has a different number of credits, there will be a possibility of different suitability level from the previous study. Previous study has not analyzed course-taking behavior by including conformance level. This study aimed to analyze students’ course-taking behavior on performance. ITS students’ course-taking dataset is analyzed using the CEA method. Behavior analyzed in this study is observed through students’ performance and conformance against curriculum design. Students’ performance is obtained through their GPA for each semester (GPA Semester). Conformance value is formulated through the number of credits taken, the number of credits designed in the curriculum design, and the maximum load credits for each semester designed in the academic regulations. Behaviors are visualized as sequence patterns. There are three kinds of sequence patterns: sequence pattern for the whole undergraduate program, the preparation phase, and the undergraduate phase. This study produces suggestions for course taking strategies for students in order to maintain IPS scores above 3.00. One example of a suggested strategy is if students experience a decrease in IPS scores, based on research results, students can be advised to take the number of credits according to the curriculum design to be able to achieve a better IPS in the following semester.
