Abstract

Pembangunan jalan di Kuala Belait, Brunei Darussalam berada di atas lapisan tanah sangat lembek dimana kondisi tanah dasar adalah tanah gambut sedalam 3 m dan lempung lembek sedalam 29 m. Dapat menimbulkan masalah karena sifat tanah lembek yang mudah memampat dan daya dukungnya kecil sehingga dapat merusak konstruksi jalan. Agar konstruksi jalan yang dibangun di atas lapisan tanah sangat lembek tersebut tidak mengalami kerusakan, diperlukan metode perbaikan tanah yang
berfungsi untuk mempercepat dan meningkatkan daya dukung tanah agar konstruksi jalan tersebut aman. Jalan yang dibangun di daerah Kuala Belait adalah jalan bebas hambatan yang digunakan sebagai sarana penghubung dalam development area. Perencanaan perkerasan jalan menggunakan metode AASHTO 1981 sedangkan metode perbaikan tanah yang dipilih adalah mengkombinasikan antara preloaing dengan PVD. Daya dukung pada tanah dasar menggunakan program Xstable.
Hasil yang didapat adalah tebal perkerasan 20 cm yang direncanakan tanpa tulangan dengan menggunakan dowel 0 1 in; tie bars 0 % in; dan jarak sambungan 3.6 - 4 m. PVD yang digunakan adalah tipe Nylex Flodrain dengan lebar 100 mm dan tebal 5 mm. Pemasangan PVD dilakukan dengan jarak 1 m dan dengan kedalaman total 8 m, 3 m di lapisan tanah gambut dan 5 m di lapisan tanah lempung. Total settlement yang harus dihilangkan sebelum konstruksi dimulai adalah sebesar 3 m
dengan kecepatan penimbunan bertahap (preloading) adalah 50 cmmingguNilai daya dukung setelah perbaikan menghasilkan SF = 1.543.

Road construction in Kuala Belait, Brunei Darussalam are on very soft soil layer where the condition of the base soil is peat which has depth 3 meters and very soft clay 29 meters. On that condition could make some problem because of the character of the soil that easily squeezing and has a weak bearing capacity until it can destroyed construction of the road itself In order to make a construction road on a very soft soil layer with no damagey it needs some improvement soil methods which is has function to speed up and to increase soil force so that enough safety' factor. The road that will be design as highway at Kuala Belait area which is development area. The pavement road design use AASHTO 1981 method, then improvement soil use combined PVD with preloading method. Xstable program has been used as
hearing capacity checking Result show that pavement has 20 cm thickness, it designed without reinforcement with dowel 0 1 in; tie bars 0 Vs in and spacing joint 3.6 - 4 m has been used. Nylex lodrain used as PIT ) design which has width 100 mm and thickness 5 mm. PVT ) spacing is 1 m and has total depth 8 meters which is 3 meters depth on peat and 5 meters depth on very soft clay. The total amount of settlement should be eliminated before construction begin is 3 meters with rate of surcharge (Preloading) has 50 centimeters everyweek Result of bearing capacity when last design has SF ~ 1.543.
