Abstract

The increasing market demand for freshwater fish is one of the reasons for the rise of freshwater fish farming. Fish farming can be interpreted as the process of rearing fish from small sizes to sizes suitable for consumption. Freshwater fish farming activities produce several wastes, one of the unavoidable wastes is aquaculture wastewater. Freshwater fish farming wastewater contains two main pollutant substances, namely organic compounds, and ammonia. The inclusion of these two pollutant materials in a sustainable manner can have a negative impact on the environment. High levels of ammonia can lead to eutrophication, and high levels of organic compounds can cause a decrease in the quality of water bodies. In this study, primary data will be needed obtained from interviews and laboratory tests. These two activities were carried out to identify the quantity and quality of freshwater fish farming wastewater. Laboratory tests were carried out to analyze four key parameters in freshwater fish farming wastewater, namely BOD, COD, TSS, and NH3. The water samples tested came from freshwater fish farming ponds in the study area, namely Mojokerto Regency. The results of laboratory tests showed that the quality of the wastewater was different due to the different feeding frequencies, fish species, pond density, and water sources used. Interviews were conducted in a structured and in-depth manner to obtain information related to water use patterns and the potential for wastewater generated from freshwater fish farming activities. From the research results, it was found that the characteristics of wastewater with several parameters that still exceed quality standards such as TSS, BOD and ammonia. Therefore, an analysis is carried out to determine recommendations for treatment technology and management of freshwater fish farming based on its classification. The processing technology chosen for the people's cultivation industry is a reservoir and Constructed Wetlands using kana flowers. Meanwhile, the recommendation for processing technology for the state aquaculture industry is Constructed Wetlands using kangkung plants. This is based on the characteristics of wastewater, conditions in the field and the availability of land and human resources involved in the aquaculture industry. The two recommended technologies are processing units that are easy for the community to operate because they do not require special expertise. In addition, these two processing technologies have a high level of efficiency.
