Abstract

Indoor air quality is a crucial aspect that connects to a human's health. This is because the body consumes between 50 and 90% of oxygen in indoor spaces. To maintain indoor air quality, there are various parameters as the standard level including PM2.5 concentration which is the main parameter in this study. Indoor air quality is affected by several factors, including resident activities and infiltration of outside air pollution from ventilation. Outdoor air pollution can increase significantly due to traffic congestion during peak hours. This study aims to investigate further the impact of peak hours and the correlation of ventilation and resident activities with the IAQ in houses near the main road and also the recommendations to improve IAQ. The collected data are: PM2.5 concentration, temperature, and humidity measured by AirVisual Pro; wind direction measured by kestrel 5500; and questionnaires filled out by residents. The sampling is located at five houses near the main road (maximumly 400 m from the main road) and conducted for one working day and one weekend. The collected PM2.5 concentration data was divided according to time, during peak and non-peak hours. The questionnaire supports the correlation between predetermined variables, including ventilation and resident activities, with indoor air quality during peak hours. The data process is analyzed by SPSS software for Pearson correlation coefficient, multicollinearity test, autocorrelation test, and multiple linear regression (MLR) analysis. The conclusions can be drawn, the average indoor and outdoor PM2.5 concentration in all five units during peak and non-peak hours meet the quality standard on weekday and weekend. Based on the correlation analysis, there is no significant correlation between indoor and outdoor PM2.5 concentration whether a window is open or closed. Based on the MLR analysis, temperature (-1.473), humidity (-0.033), number of furniture (3.660), fans usage (-8.005), cooking activities (3.755), cleaning activities (14.940), smoking behaviour (4.545), and peak hours (6.896) correlate with PM2.5 concentration. To improve indoor air quality, the recommendations are: increasing fans usage; do not smoke in the house area; and minimizing furniture
