Abstract

Kesulitan dalam wayfinding selalu dialami oleh pengunjung baru, tak terkecuali mahasiswa saat berada di lingkungan kampus. Mahasiswa mengalami permasalahan wayfinding akibat tatanan gedung kampus yang padat dan bertingkat. Dalam wayfinding, aspek lingkungan memegang peran penting untuk memberikan informasi yang mudah dipahami dan dipersepsikan oleh pengunjung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis aspek visual dan spasial pada lingkungan Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) kampus Sukolilo yang dapat membantu mahasiswa dalam wayfinding di lingkungan kampus, serta merumuskan kriteria kampus sebagai lingkungan multi-building dan multi-space berdasarkan kognisi spasial mahasiswa. Data mengenai aspek akses visual, tingkat diferensiasi arsitektural, penggunaan penanda, dan konfigurasi perencanaan dikumpulkan melalui metode observasi, kuesioner dan indepth interview. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan metode deskriptif kuantitatif dan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa aspek arsitektur, baik secara visual maupun spasial, berperan dalam pembentukan kognisi spasial mahasiswa terhadap lingkungan kampus. Wayfinding oleh mahasiswa di lingkungan kampus adalah serangkaian proses melihat dan bergerak untuk dapat mengkofirmasi dan memvalidasi pengetahuan spasial pra-kunjungan terhadap aspek lingkungan yang ada. Untuk itu, familiaritas terhadap lingkungan kampus tidak ditentukan oleh lama periode menjadi mahasiswa namun ditentukan oleh pengalaman menjelajah. Kriteria aspek lingkungan dengan mengutamakan kemudahan wayfinding di lingkungan kampus sebagai lingkungan multi-building dan multi-space harus menekankan integrasi “landmark to landmark”. Sehingga pada lingkungan kampus dibutuhkan aspek visual yang memiliki distinctiveness atau elemen pembeda pada setiap gedung atau lansekap serta aspek spasial yang memberikan keleluasaan visibilitas terutama dari sudut arah datang pada sirkulasi pengunjung

The difficulty of wayfinding is always experienced by new visitors, including students, while on campus. New visitors experience wayfinding problems because of the dense and multi-story campus building arrangement. In wayfinding, architectural aspects play an important role in providing spatial information to be understood and perceived by visitors. This study aims to identify and analyze the visual and spatial aspects of the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) campus and formulate the architectural aspects criteria for the arrangement of the campus area as a multi-building and multi-space area based on students' spatial cognition. Data on visual access, the degree of architectural differentiation, use of signs, and plan configurations were collected through observation, questionnaires, and in-depth interviews. Furthermore, the data were analyzed by quantitative descriptive and qualitative descriptive methods. The study results explain that architectural aspects, both visually and spatially, play an important role in the formation of students' spatial cognition of the campus area. Wayfinding by students in a campus area is a series of seeing and moving processes to confirm and validate pre-visit spatial knowledge with existing environmental aspects. For this reason, familiarity with the campus area is not determined by the length of time as a student but by the exploring experience of the student. Furthermore, the criteria for environmental aspects by prioritizing the ease of wayfinding in the campus area as a multi-building and multi-space area must emphasize the integration of "landmarks to landmarks." Thus, to achieve these criteria, the campus area requires visual aspects that have distinct characteristics or elements in each building or landscape, as well as spatial aspects that provide flexibility of visibility, especially from the point of view of the arrival direction of the circulation of visitors.
