Abstract

Korosi merupakan degradasi material yang sudah menjadi masalah dalam industri sejak lama. Pengendalian korosi diperlukan untuk memperpanjang umur dari sautau material. Ada berbagai cara dalam pengendalian korosi yaitu salah satunya dengan proteksi katodik anoda korban. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisa pengaruh penambahan unsur tanah jarang Ytterbium pada anoda korban aluminium dengan variasi konsentrasi 14.7%, 21.8%, dan 22.8% di lingkungan air laut pada temperatur 34oC terhadap laju korosinya. Paduan anoda korban AlYb dilakukan dengan cara pengecoran menggunakan crucible dan gas furnace. Sampel dilakukan berbagai pengujian seperti pengujian XRF, XRD, Metalografi, Imersi, dan pengujian tafel polarisasi. Penambahan unsur tanah jarang Ytterbium mengakibatkan terbentuk senyawa intermatalik seperti Al3Yb, YbZn yang berefek pada struktur mikro paduan anoda korban yaitu butir yang semakin halus. Penambahan unsur tanah jarang Ytterbium memiliki kecenderungan menurunkan laju korosi anoda korban dimana dimana hal tersebut memberikan pengaruh yang kurang baik terhadap performa anoda korban Al.

Corrosion is degradation of material that already been a problem for industry for a long time. Corrosion control is needed to increase the useage of material. There are many method to control corrosion, and one of them is Sacrifice Anode Cathodic Protection. This research purpose is to analyze the effect of adding rare eart element Ytterbium with concentration variation of 14.7%, 21.8%, and 22.8% in seawater environment at 34oC toward its corrosion rate. Al-Yb alloy is made by casting using crucible and gas furnace. Then sample is done by various testing such as XRF, XRD, Metalografi, Imersion, dan tafel polarization testing. The adding of Ytterbium into alloy resulting into forming of intermetallics compounds such as Al3Yb, and YbZn affecting the microstructure of the alloy where the grainsize is becoming finer. Adding rare earth element Ytterbium having tendency to decrease the corrotion rate of the alloy which is having a negative effect to performance of the alloy as sacrifial anode.
