Abstract

Supporting facilities for people with disabilities need to be considered so that they can be on par with humans. One of the supports for disabled people, especially, requires a wheelchair. As technology develops, several innovations emerge for better facilities. A wheelchair with an electric motor is one of the innovations to make it easier to use a wheelchair. With a background study in Mechanical Engineering studying structural analysis, a structural analysis of the connection between a wheelchair and an electric scooter was carried out. The stages of this research consisted of literature study, observation, determination of design parameters, 3D structural modeling using Computer Aided Drawing software, theoretical calculations, structural strength and fatigue analysis using finite element method based software, and validation of simulation results with theoretical calculation results. The results of von Mises strength and Safety Factor were obtained with modifications to the solid cylindrical rod section and the center rod spacing according to the parameters, namely the dynamic load safety factor and the effectiveness of material use. The simulation results of a stem diameter of 14 mm and 203 mm B&D bearing distance with equivalent von Mises results and a safety factor of 174.07 MPa and 2.5. The fatigue life value of the modified design with a cyclic arm ratio of 0.39 is 775560 cycles. This value is validated by palmgreen miner rules and an error value of 5.21% is obtained
