Abstract

Astronomi merupakan salah satu cabang ilmu tertua di dunia yang mempelajari fenomena-fenomena benda di luar angkasa. Astronomi dapat menjadi gerbang untuk menarik minat siswa sekolah dasar dalam mempelajari ilmu sains, namun terdapat keterbatasan seperti kurangnya ketersediaan fasilitas belajar yang dapat menunjang pembelajaran astronomi di sekolah. Ilmu astronomi penting untuk diajarkan kepada siswa karena ilmu astronomi dapat melatih nalar dan daya imajinasi, serta mengajarkan mereka untuk lebih peka dan peduli terhadap kemajuan teknologi serta kuasa sang pencipta melalui berbagai ciptaannya. Astronomi memiliki banyak sekali materi dan praktek sehingga pembelajaran astronomi perlu dikemas secara menarik dan dengan bahasa yang mudah untuk dipahami oleh anak-anak. Medium animasi dipilih untuk memperkenalkan materi astronomi. Untuk mendukung perancangan animasi, environment (latar belakang) perlu dirancang agar memberikan pengalaman menonton yang lebih menarik sekaligus untuk mendukung pembelajaran astronomi.

Penelitian ini menggunakan data dari riset primer dan riset sekunder untuk menghasilkan konsep desain. Riset primer menggunakan depth interview kepada guru untuk mempelajari proses belajar mengajar di kelas. Penyebaran kuesioner kemudian dilakukan kepada siswa-siswi SD kelas 5-6 untuk menggali data mengenai gaya hidup serta pandangan mereka terhadap ilmu astronomi. Observasi dilakukan sebagai bahan studi artefak visual di lingkungan sekolah dan ruang kelas untuk pembuatan konsep environment, dilanjutkan dengan studi literatur dari buku ensiklopedia astronomi, misi MESSENGER (NASA), dan misi VENERA (Uni Soviet) sebagai dasar dari pembuatan konsep desain planet Merkurius dan Venus. Konsep desain dikembangkan lagi lewat studi eksperimental dan asistensi lewat in-depth interview kepada sutradara untuk menghasilkan rancangan environment yang lebih baik.

Luaran dari perancangan ini adalah desain environment dan aset properti pendukung pada perancangan serial animasi astronomi. Desain environment mengangkat konsep “Khas Indonesia” dimana luaran dari environment terinspirasi dari temuan artefak visual yang ada di lingkungan sekitar. Desain environment juga mengangkat konsep “Scientific Based” sehingga luaran environment planet Merkurius dan Venus sesuai secara teori berdasarkan hasil penelitian terkini.

Astronomy is one of the oldest branches of science that studied the phenomenon of objects in outer space. Astronomy can become a gate to attract students to learn science, but there is a limitation such as the lack of availability of learning tools/facilities that can support the astronomy subject at school. Astronomy is important to teach to students because astronomy can train their reasoning and imagination, and teach them to be more sensitive and concerned about technological progress, and the power of the creator through his various creations. Astronomy has a lot of material and practice to do, so astronomy subjects needed to be packaged in an interesting way and in a language that is easy for children to understand. The animation was chosen to introduce astronomy subject. To support the creation of animation, the environment or background needs to be designed to provide a more interesting viewing experience as well as to support astronomy learning.

This study uses data from primary research and secondary research to produce design concepts. Primary research uses in-depth interviews with teachers to study about the teaching and learning process in the classroom. Questionnaires were then distributed to elementary school students in grades 5-6 to collect data on their lifestyle and their views on astronomy. Observations were carried out as material for studying visual artifacts in the school environment and classrooms for the creation of an environment concept, followed by a literature study from astronomy encyclopedia books, the MESSENGER mission (NASA), and the VENERA mission (Soviet Union) as the basis for creating the design concept for the planets Mercury and Venus. The design concept was further developed through experimental studies and assistance through in-depth interviews with the director to produce a better environment design.

The outputs of this study are the design for the environment and property assets for astronomy animation series. The design of the environment adopts the concept of "Typical Indonesian" where the output of the environment is inspired by the findings of visual artifacts in the surrounding environment. The design of the environment also adopts the concept of "Scientific Based" so that the environmental outcomes of Mercury and Venus correspond theoretically based on the latest research results.
