Abstract

In the shipbuilding process, planning and calculations are needed, including system planning on the ship, one of which is a fresh water supply system. To meet fresh water demands, there are two options, namely providing a large tank capacity or providing a freshwater production system (seawater treatment). This research will discuss the seawater treatment as an alternative to meeting the demands of fresh water on a 300 GT fishing vessel. The process of changing sea water into fresh water is called as distillation. There are various kinds of heat sources to run distillation technology, in this study utilizing heat energy from exhaust gases in diesel generators for the distillation process. The results of this study are the availability of heat energy from diesel generators that can be used in this distillation process which is 4273659,205 kj/h; 4482413,994 kj/h; 4611020,773 kj/h; 4738144,606 kj/h; 4863734,35 kj/h; 4987743,898 kj/h at each temperature variation. The designed distillation system is capable of producing 0,422420319 m3/h fresh water at 580°C exhaust gas temperature, 0,331528884 m3/h at 500°C exhaust gas temperature, 0,275418327 m3/h at 450°C exhaust gas temperature, 0,219891975 m3/h at 400°C exhaust gas temperature, 0,164977408 m3/h at 350°C exhaust gas temperature, and 0,110705235 m3/h at 300°C exhaust gas temperature.
