Abstract

In maintaining and preserving batik culture in Indonesia, batik craftsmen need to develop new types of motifs in accordance with the progress and development of civilization. One of the efforts is to explore new batik patterns with the theme of endemic biodiversity that is threatened with extinction, various types of insect species have their respective roles in ecosystem functions, so that this diversity needs to be preserved, one of which is by designingbatik motif designs. In this design, the research aims to increase public awareness on the issue of conservation of endangered insects. This is done by exploring the design of insect-themed batikmotifs. The design begins with collecting and testing research data using literature study methods and existing studies as secondary data. Primary data was obtained through interviewswith stakeholders and distributing questionnaires to the target audience online. Furthermore, the data will be classified and used to design prototyping which is then tested on the design to the target market. The results of the exploration of this batik motif are in the form of a prototype of batikcloth with motifs of morphology, habitat, and diversity of endemic insects in Indonesia. The design is expected to create innovative insect patterns so that it can enrich batik motifs and increase public awareness in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem, especially endemic Indonesia insect.
