Abstract

Faris Collection is a garment manufacturing company that produces various types of clothing using a make to order system. The company is committed to producing quality products at affordable prices and on time. Therefore, companies need to identify which activities provide added value and which activities result in waste, so they must be eliminated immediately. The implementation of lean manufacturing is a solution to reduce waste in the production system. The waste assessment model (WAM) is a lean manufacturing framework that has advantages in the simplicity of the matrix and the coverage that covers a wide range of things and is able to contribute to partnerships with accurate results in drawing up the root causes of waste. Based on the results of WAM, the priority waste results were obtained with the top three rankings, namely inventory 22.89%, defects 18.98%, and waiting 14.06%. Then an analysis is carried out regarding the root causes using a fishbone diagram and a risk assessment using FMEA from the prioritized waste. Recommendations for improvement using fabric purchasing and fabric grouping policies for inventory waste, mall standardization and fabric pattern sizes, implementation of CCTV and daily production targets, improvement of work space, improvement of worker nutrition, procurement of material handling equipment, policy making for external tailors for defect waste, and fabric buying policies for waiting waste.
