Abstract

Steam trap adalah jenis katup otomatis yang menyaring kondensat dan gas non-kondensasi yang dibuang ke udara untuk mencegah terjadinya water hamerring pada pipa. Adapun jenis steam trap yang di pasang di sistem distribusi pipa uap pada utility supply di PT. Steel Making Plant adalah jenis inverted bucket, mengalami kebocoroan dan menyebabkan steam loss sehingga perlu dianalisa penyebab terjadinya kebocoran. Kegagalan steam trap diteliti dengan metode Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) dimana dilakukan analisis laju korosi pada bagian plug test. Data pendukung seperti sampel air kondensat, kecepatan aliran steam , serta kandungan kimia steam. Pengujian material dilakukan dengan OES (Optical Emission Spectrometer) dan pengamatan makrografi dan mikrografi dilakukan dengan mikroskop optic dan SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). Pengujian hardness test diambil untuk mendeteksi perubahan sifat mekanik. Analisa Kegagalan steam trap jenis inverted bucket menggunakan metode Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) diketahui penyebabnya adalah terjadinya errosion pada bagian baut plug test. Kerusakan awal yang disebabkan oleh kavitasi dari aksi mekanik adanya aliran air kondensat, menyebabkan tekanan hidrodinamik lokal naik dan menyebabkan lubang, dan fraksi aliran air kondesnsat terus menerus mengakibatkan erosi pada bagian baut dan melebar kebagian bagian body steam trap yang mengakibatkan terjadinya kebocoran.

The steam trap is a type of automatic valve that filters condensate and non-condensing gases discharged into the air to prevent water hammering in the pipes. The type of steam trap that is installed in the steam pipe distribution system in the utility supply at PT. The Steel Making Plant is an inverted bucket type, has leaks and causes steam loss so it needs to be analyzed for the causes of leaks. The failure of the steam trap was examined using the Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) method whereby an analysis of the corrosion rate was carried out on the plug test section. Supporting data such as condensate water samples, steam flow rates, and steam chemical content. Material testing was carried out with an OES (Optical Emission Spectrometer) and macrographic and micrographic observations were carried out with an optical microscope and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). The hardness test was taken to detect changes in mechanical properties. Failure analysis of the inverted bucket type steam trap using the Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) method is known to cause the occurrence of erosion on the plug test bolt. The initial damage caused by cavitation from the mechanical action of air condensate flow causes local hydrodynamic pressure to rise and causes holes, and the fraction of air condensate flow continuously causes erosion of the bolts and widens into the body of the steam trap causing leakage.
