Abstract

Floating health center or hospital ships are a solution to the problem of health equity in Indonesian territory by having a combined concept between the concept of a ship and a health center. In its operation, the floating health center must maintain hygiene in the fresh water system, especially the temperature of the water to be used for bathing and washing clothes. To maintain the hygiene of the fresh water system, it is necessary to utilize a heat source in the ship such as exhaust gas from the auxiliary engine or what is commonly called heat waste recovery which is used by the heat exchanger. This research was conducted to plan the design of a heat exchanger with a double pipe type that utilizes heat waste recovery to meet the need for maintaining the hygiene of the fresh water system of floating health center 65 GT. The design method is carried out in two stages, namely empirical studies and design validation using heat exchanger modeling software. The planned heat exchanger uses a double pipe type with an annulus size of 4 inches, 3 inches of pipe, and 2 haripins with a water fluid output temperature of 70 ᵒC in accordance with the provisions of the ministry of health regulations. The results of the planned design can meet the needs of the ship's domestic system which requires a heat of 22.943 kW with a heat exchanger duty generated of 24.004 kW, while the results of the difference between empirical studies and software heat value exchanger duty has a difference of 0.498%.
