Abstract

Fiber optic pH sensor based on sol-gel and its storage technique have been made and determined. The sensor was made of fiber optic of which the cladding was removed and replaced with sol-gel film. The sol-gel itself is composed of TEOS, anhydrous ethanol, bromophenol blue and cresol red with a specific composition. The mixture was heated and stirred simultaneously at 60 C for 30 minutes and subsequently dried for 20 days at room temperature in an atmospheric pressure. Two storage techniques were applied, l.e. in an open and closed container and various temperatures, l.e. room temperature and 9-14 C for 5 days. The measurement range of pH 3-12 and sensitivity of -3.732 x 10 -3 pW for each pH change were obtained. The optimum storage technique was attained for sensors that were kept in a closed container at room temperature as indicated by its sensitivity of -3.123 x 10 -3 pW.
