Abstract
This paper discusses the influence of Makassar culture of solidarity to the changes in morphological characteristics of the Mariso waterfront settlement. Makassar culture of solidarity is based on their social concepts known as sipakatau and passaribattangngang. Both of these concepts are considered having influenced the formation of Mariso settlement. This study was conducted by using diachronic reading techniques analysis and supported by space syntax methods. The result of this study shows that sipakatau and passaribattangngang culture has been manifested in the spatial formation of Mariso settlement. This paper could be a concept for the development of the waterfront settlements based on socio-cultural.
