Abstract

Di dalam aplikasi teknik, struktur profil berbentuk silinder sering ditemukan. Studi yang pernah dilakukan menyatakan, apabila sebuah silinder dilintasi aliran fluida akan timbul gaya drag yang sering kali dianggap merugikan. Banyak metode yang telah dilakukan untuk mereduksi gaya drag tersebut, salah satunya memodifikasi profil silinder. Penambahan splitter plate di bagian belakang silinder merupakan salah satu cara dalam memodifikasi profil silinder, sehingga seolah lebih aerodinamis. Dengan bentuk profil yang seolah lebih aerodinamis, diharapkan daerah wake yang terbentuk di bagian belakang silinder lebih kecil sehingga gaya drag yang dihasilkan menjadi tereduksi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode eksperimen dan numerik. Studi eksperimen dilakukan pada subsonic wind tunnel yaitu pada kecepatan free stream 13,5 m/s dengan bilangan Reynolds sebesar 2,6 x 104. Benda uji yang digunakan berupa sirkular silinder berdiameter (D) 30 mm dan sirkular silinder dengan penambahan splitter plate di bagian belakang silinder. Panjang splitter plate (Ls) yang digunakan adalah 75 mm dengan ketebalan (t) sebesar 2,4 mm. Distribusi tekanan kontur pada benda uji diukur dengan pressure tap yang terpasang pada permukaan silinder. Profil kecepatan aliran pada daerah midspan dan wake diukur menggunakan pitot tube yang dipasang di daerah midspan dan bagian belakang silinder. Studi numerik menggunakan software Fluent 6.3.2.6 dengan model turbulensi k- shear stress trasnport (SST). Dari penelitian secara eksperimen didapatkan, penambahan splitter plate di bagian belakang silinder sirkular dapat meningkatkan nilai koefisien friction drag (CDf) dan koefisien total drag (CDt). Sedangkan, hasil simulasi numerik menunjukkan penurunan nilai koefisien friction drag (CDf) dan koefisien total drag (CDt). Kenaikan CDt melalui metode eksperimen sebesar 17,32% sedangkan penurunan CDt melalui simulasi numerik sebesar 6,12%. Penambahan splitter plate menurunkan harga koefisien pressure drag (CDp), namun tidak mampu menunda separasi aliran yang terjadi pada kontur silinder. Fenomena ini ditunjukkan oleh hasil yang diperoleh melalui metode eksperimen dan numerik.

In any technique application, the structure of cylindrical profiles are often to be found. From the analytical study that had ever been conducted, it states that if a cylinder is crossed by the fluid flow, there will be a drag force that are often considered as a loss. A lot of methods has been taken to reduce the drag force. One of the method is modifying the cylinder.The adding of splitter plate at the rear of the cylinder is one way to modify the clylinder, for making it to be more aerodynamic. By the shape that seems to have a better aerodynamic profile, it is expected that the wake region formed at the rear of the cylinder is smaller and so does the drag force. This study was conducted using experimental and numerical method. The experimental study was conducted on a subsonic wind tunnel. The wind tunnel has a stream velocity of 13,5 m/s with Reynolds number of 2,6x104. The specimens are a circular cylinder with the diameter (d) of 30 mm and a spilter plate adding at the rear of the circular cylinder.The length of the spiltter plate (Ls) was 75 mm with the thickness of 2,4 mm. The pressure distribution contour on the specimen is measured by pressure taps that are mounted on the surface. Local velocity profile at the midspan and wake were measured by pitot tubes that are mounted at the midspan and the rear. FLUENT 6.3.2.6. is a software for the numerical study. The model was a turbulent flow with k- shear stress trasnport (SST). The experimental result in adding a splitter plate at the rear of the circular cylinder can increase the value of friction (CDf) and total drag coefficient (CDt). In addition, the value of friction (CDf) and total drag coefficient (CDt) are decreased based on numerical result. The experimental results show a increase in the drag coefficient of 17,32%, while the results of numerical simulations showed a decrease in the drag coefficient of 6,12%.Both of experimental and numerical results show the addition of a splitter plate can decrease the value of base pressure coefficient (CPb), but the flow separation that occurs in the contour of the cylinder is not able to be delayed.
