Abstract
Pada penelitian ini mencoba menggali karakteristik dari serat gelas yang mempunyai sifat- sifat mekanik material komposit yang terbuat dari serat gelas polyester resin. Sifat material komposit yang ringan tahan terhadap korosi menjadikan material ini dijadikan sebagai alternatif pengganti baja pada pembangunan kapal. Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) adalah salah satu jenis material komposit yang biasa digunakan. Langkah awal yang dilakukan adalah analisis sifat material dari komposit yang diuji secara mikromekanik dan makromekanik. Selanjutnya dilakukan pengujian bending dan pengujian tarik, dalam pengujian ini menggunakan standart pengujian ASTM D 3039 M, 1993 dan ASTM D 638M- 84

This research tried to delve the characteristic from glass fiber. Having the nature of made composite material mechanic from fiberglass of polyester resin. The Characteristic of composite material which are light in weight ad good resistance on corrosion is the reason why this material is chosen as an alternative substitute for steel on shipbuilding. Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) is one of composite material that is usually used. The early step were taken is analysis of material characteristic from composite that was tested by micromechanics and macro mechanics. is hereinafter conducted by examination of interesting bending examination, this examination use the standard examination of ASTM D 3039 M, 1993 and ASTM D 638M- 84
