Abstract

In recent years, the basis of customer value has moved from physical product offering to product-service system (PSS). PSS is an integrated bundle of physical products and services which aims at creating customer utility and generating value. Two important stages in adopting PSS are PSS design and evaluation. Previous studies have proposed several methods for PSS design and evaluation. However, only few that have considered multi-actor in PSS.
The PSS provider (manufacturer and service provider) and customer usually have different needs. This research develops a methodology of Multi-actor Fuzzy-Quality Function Deployment for designing of PSS with multi-actor. This model is proposed to synchronize requirement from customers, manufacturer and service provider in designing PSS so as to ensure satisfaction of all parties and conflict of interests could be compromized. The model is developed to design PSS in manufacturing company, that includes Product-oriented service and Use-oriented service. Even though PSS business model has several benefits, however there are some barriers which need to be considered. Therefore, risk evaluation from multi-actor is also incorporated in the model, by continuing to the development of House of Risk multi-actor.
After the process of PSS design, it is also imperative to develop a multi-actor model to evaluate the feasibility of the PSS design. Therefore, this research also aims to develop an evaluation model by considering multi-actor perspectives. The evaluation model is combined with analysis of PSS cost structure, using lean accounting, and a discrete-event simulation model for evaluating the implication of PSS adoption, using Arena software.
In order to support the applicability of PSS model development, an integrated software, PSSMA (Product-Service System Multi-Actor), was developed. This software integrates the PSS design model, PSS risk model and PSS evaluation model by incorporating the multi-actor in PSS. In addition, PSSMO Software was also developed to ghel monitoring the process of PSS adoption.
The model has been successfully implemented in two companies with direct selling system: furniture and commercial vehicle manufacturer. This model has supported the manufacturing company in the design, risk assessment, and evaluation of PSS. The evaluation result has shown that the best PSS model for the current situation is Product-oriented Service (PoS). In addition, the result has proven that PSS implementation in manufacturing company provides benefits, from both economy and environment aspects.
