Abstract

The Samarinda shipping channel has a length of 51.458 Nautical Miles (95.3 KM) and a minimum depth of 4.4 meters LWS. The average tidal range in this channel is 1.6 meters. Samarinda Port is a large port that consists of two terminals, namely the cargo terminal in Samarinda city and the container terminal in Palaran. Additionally, there are many Tersus (Special Berthing Places) and TUKS (Temporary Port Business Places) operating along the Samarinda shipping channel, with approximately 62 TUKS, 3 Tersus, and 3 BUP (Shipping Business Entities). The Samarinda shipping channel is located in a river and the Mahakam delta, which has a high potential for sedimentation. This research focuses on studying the model of current patterns and sediment distribution using software with hydrodynamic and sediment transport modules. Simulations are conducted with scenarios involving tidal cycles, river discharge, wind, and waves from the sea. The current patterns are influenced by river discharge and tidal cycles. During spring tide, the current pattern moves parallel to the coastline (Longshore Current) with speeds ranging from 0.3 m/s to 0.96 m/s. Meanwhile, during neap tide, the current pattern also moves parallel to the coastline (Longshore Current) with speeds ranging from 0.1 m/s to 0.44 m/s. Furthermore, there are changes in the water depth every month, ranging from 0.2 m to 1.1 m. The sedimentation rates for different areas are as follows: area 1 701.79 m3/day, area 2 275.64 m3/day, area 3 188.41 m3/day, and area 4 135.78 m3/day. Next, calculations were performed for dredging with a minimum depth of 7.7 m and a width of 176.4 m for 2 directions. Using the assistance of Civil 3D software, a dredging volume of 26,522,510.288 m3 was obtained. After the dredging, the sedimentation rates for each area are as follows: area 1 635.13 m3/day, area 2 178.04 m3/day, area 3 135.07 m3/day, area 4 129.18 m3/day, area 5 36.48 m3/day, area 6 323.85 m3/day, and area 7 107.89 m3/day.
