Abstract

Material komposit telah berkembang secara pesat dan luas di Indonesia. Komposit dapat dimanfaatkan pada bidang medis sebagai implan tulang seperti acetabular cup liner implant. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh hydroxyapatite coating terhadap sifat mekanik, morfologi, dan biokompatibilitas. Material yang digunakan adalah Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), Polycaprolactone (PCL), Hydroxyapatite (HA). Pada penelitian ini, dilakukan pembuatan komposit UHMWPE/PCL kemudian dilapisi hydroxyapatite dengan metode dip coating. Variasi perbandingan ratio komposit adalah 87% UHMWPE dan 13% PCL serta perbandingan variasi hydroxyapatite coating yaitu 6,9, dan 12 gram. Pengujian yang dilakukan adalah Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energy Dispersive XRay Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) dan penampang melintang (cross-section), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), adhesive pull-off strength test, uji kekerasan, dan uji biokompatibilitas. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan sampel terbaik yang berbeda-beda. Untuk pengujian mekanik, pada adhesive pull-off strength test sampel terbaik adalah variasi 9 gram HA yang melapisi UHMWPE dengan nilai daya lekat sebesar 1,28 MPa. Untuk uji kekerasan, sampel terbaik pada variasi 12 gram HA yang melapisi UHMWPE dengan nilai kekerasan sebesar 50 Shore D. Untuk pengamatan morfologi, sampel terbaik pada variasi 12 gram HA yang melapisi UHMWPE dengan nilai ketebalan sebesar 120 µm. Untuk pengujian biokompatibilitas,sampel terbaik pada variasi 12 gram HA yang melapisi UHMWPE/PCL dengan nilai viabilitas sebesar 93% dan termasuk kedalam material non toksik.

Composite materials have developed rapidly and widely in Indonesia. Composites can be utilized in the medical field as bone implants such as acetabular cup liner implants. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of hydroxyapatite coating on mechanical properties, morphology, and biocompatibility. The materials used are Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), Polycaprolactone (PCL), Hydroxyapatite (HA). In this study, UHMWPE/PCL composites were made and then coated with hydroxyapatite by dip coating method. The variation of composite ratio is 87% UHMWPE and 13% PCL and the comparison of hydroxyapatite coating variations is 6, 9, and 12 grams. The tests conducted were Scanning Electron Microscopy - Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) and cross-section, Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), adhesive pull-off strength test, hardness test, and biocompatibility test. The test results showed different best samples. For mechanical testing, in the adhesive pull-off strength test, the best sample was the variation of 9 grams of HA coating UHMWPE with an adhesive strength value of 1.28 MPa. For hardness test, the best sample was the 12 gram HA coated UHMWPE variation with a hardness value of 50 Shore D. For morphological observation, the best sample was 12 grams of HA coated UHMWPE with a thickness value of 120 µm. For biocompatibility testing, the best sample was 12 grams of HA coated UHMWPE/PCL with a viability value of 93% and included in non-toxic materials.
