Abstract

A current wind speed meter can only read wind speed without knowing the type of wind at the time of measurement. For this reason, the wind speed meter will be updated with additional features that can read the type of wind. This tool also adds a wind vane sensor to detect which direction the wind is blowing. The wind speed measuring instrument will be made using an anemometer cup fitted with an optocoupler sensor to convert rotary motion into wind speed and wind direction using a wind vane mounted with a hall effect sensor to determine the direction the wind is blowing. Testing the cup and wind vane anemometers is carried out by providing input in the form of wind speed. The wind will move the cup and rotate the lattice plate which is read by the optocoupler sensor. The wind will move the wind vane according to the direction of blowing so that if the magnet under the wind vane is aligned with the hall effect sensor it will affect the voltage on the hall effect (low). The output voltage will be processed by the ESP32 microcontroller and sent to the website so that the wind speed, type, and direction can be displayed. The test results show that the wind vane sensor can read the wind direction at that time with a correction of 0 with an accuracy rate of 100%, measurement range of 0o – 315o, span of 315o, resolution of 45o, and sensitivity of 0.14, which means the sensor can be said to be valid and can be used in a study. The cup anemometer sensor reading has an average error of 2.007%, which means the error level is <3% and has an accuracy rate of 97.93%, the measurement range is 0 – 40.72 m/s, the span is 40.72, the resolution is 0.01 m /s, and a sensitivity of 0.00024, so that it can be analyzed that this anemometer sensor is quite accurate. For the database test, it was found that the database can display sensor reading data on May 3, 2023, from 13.35 to 14.00. Then for testing data transmission at 08.00 - 10.00, 12.30 - 14.00, and 19.00 - 22.55, it was found that data transmission was real-time with sending speed <1 second, and for GUI testing it was found that the GUI can display menus as well as data from sensors
