Abstract

Grounding system is a crucial component in an electrical system, particularly in minimizing and preventing losses during grounding faults. With a proper grounding system in place, fault currents can quickly disperse in all directions and flow into the ground. This research aims to evaluate the grounding system at Power Plant PLTP Geo Dipa Dieng Unit-1 using the IEEE Std. 80-2000 standard through ETAP simulation. The study also intends to assess the influence of adding grounding conductors, depth of installation for grid conductors and grounding rods, and soil types on the grounding system. The simulation results show that the obtained touch voltage is 769.8 V, while the tolerable touch voltage is 1785.2 V. Additionally, the obtained step voltage is 195.2 V, with a tolerable step voltage of 6648.6 V. The resulting Ground Potential Rise (GPR) value is 1666.5 V, and the grounding resistance is satisfactory at 0.539 Ω. Based on the IEEE Std. 80-2000 standard, the existing grounding system at Power Plant PLTP Geo Dipa Dieng Unit-1 is considered safe. Furthermore, the simulation of adding grounding conductors indicates a decrease in touch voltage and step voltage, thus optimizing the grounding system. Variations in the depth of grounding conductor installation and soil types also affect the grounding system's performance.
