Abstract

Optimal and economic scheduling of charge and discharge power for hybrid energy storage systems is crucial, known as economic dispatch. The objective is to minimize the cost of energy storage while fulfilling the load requirements and imposed constraints. In this study, a hybrid energy storage system consisting of batteries and supercapacitors is designed for an off-grid solar power plant (PV off-grid). The research methodology employed for optimizing the economic dispatch of energy storage is the mixed-integer linear programming method. The research is conducted through simulations using MATLAB R2022b software. The research findings demonstrate the optimal scheduling of charge and discharge power for batteries and supercapacitors, satisfying the predefined constraints. The results also indicate a battery Depth of Discharge (DOD) of 38.764% of the battery's energy capacity and a supercapacitor DOD of 80% of the supercapacitor's energy capacity. Furthermore, the cost of battery power is $0.236, the cost of supercapacitor power is $0.053183, and the cost of the hybrid energy storage system's power is $0.289183 over a 24-hour period.
