Abstract

Saat ini, di masa industri modern, struktur berbahan dasar logam semakin banyak digunakan. Logam- logam tersebut mudah terserang korosi seiring berkembangnya waktu. Oleh karena itu, perlu adanya teknik pengendalian korosi untuk struktur di lingkungan berair yaitu menggunakan anoda korban. Jenis anoda korban yang cocok digunakan di lingkungan berair salah satunya aluminium. Tetapi, diperlukan penambahan unsur lain untuk menunjang kinerja dari proteksi katodik ini. Pada penelitian ini, ditambahkan unsur tanah jarang yaitu ytterbium (Yb). Variabel yang digunakan yaitu komposisi ytterbium terhadap anoda korban aluminium 1%, 2%, dan 3%, serta media perendaman yaitu akuades dan air PDAM di Surabaya. Tujuan dari dilakukannya penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan unsur tanah jarang dan media perendaman dari paduan anoda korban aluminium-ytterbium. Setelah melakukan pengecoran anoda korban, dilakukan 6 pengujian yaitu OES-AAS, XRD, SEM-EDX, metalografi, efisiensi anoda korban, dan potensiostat. Hasil pengecoran kemudian, dilakukan uji XRD untuk mengetahui senyawa yang terbentuk. Didapatkan hasil bahwasanya ada senyawa Al, Zn, dan YbZn2. Adanya senyawa YbZn2 ini juga didukung kuat oleh pengujian SEM-EDX mapping dengan tersebarnya unsur Yb di daerah berwarna terang milik Zn. Melalui pengujian metalografi, dapat diamati bahwa semakin meningkatnya kandungan Yb dalam paduan, akan menghaluskan serta memperkecil ukuran butir. Karena ukuran butir yang lebih halus dan kecil inilah yang menyebabkan laju korosi dari sampel akan semakin rendah (dibuktikan dengan uji potensiostat), hasil efisiensi anoda korban juga menunjukkan bahwa nilai efisiensi terbesar ada pada paduan dengan komposisi Yb terbanyak (3%) dengan nilai 92% pada media perendaman air PDAM Surabaya dan 94% dengan media perendaman akuades. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa nilai efisiensi naik seiring dengan penambahan unsur ytterbium. Efisiensi anoda korban pada media air akuades lebih tinggi daripada efisiensi pada media air PDAM Surabaya. Hal ini karena media perendaman air PDAM Surabaya terdapat unsur- unsur yang dapat mempercepat laju korosi sehingga efisiensi dari anoda tersebut bernilai rendah.

Today, in modern industrial times, structures based on metal are increasingly being used. These metals are susceptible to corrosion over time. Therefore, it is necessary to have a corrosion control technique for structures in aqueous environments, namely using a sacrificial anode. One type of sacrificial anode suitable for use in aqueous environments is aluminum. However, it is necessary to add other elements to support the performance of this cathodic protection. In this study, a rare earth element, ytterbium (Yb), was added. The variables used were the composition of Yb to aluminum sacrificial anodes 1%, 2%, and 3%, as well as the immersion media, namely aquades and PDAM water in Surabaya. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding rare earth elements and immersion media of aluminum-ytterbium sacrificial anode alloys. After casting the sacrificial anode, 6 tests were carried out, namely OES-AAS, XRD, SEM-EDX, metallography, efficiency of sacrificial anode, and potentiostat. The results of the casting were then carried out by an XRD test to determine the compounds formed. The results showed that there were Al, Zn, and YbZn2 compounds. The presence of the YbZn2 compound is also strongly supported by SEM-EDX mapping testing with the distribution of Yb elements in Zn's brightly colored areas. Through metallographic testing, it can be observed that increasing the Yb content in the alloy will refine and reduce the grain size. Because the grain size is finer and smaller, the corrosion rate of the sample will be lower. This can be seen from the potentiostat test. Then, the results of the efficiency of the sacrificial anode also show that the highest efficiency value is in the alloy with the most Yb composition (3%) with a value of 92% in PDAM Surabaya water immersion medium and 94% in aquadest immersion media. This proves that the efficiency value is increases with the addition of ytterbium. The efficiency of the sacrificial anode in aquades is higher than that of PDAM Surabaya. This is because in PDAM Surabaya's water immersion media there are elements that can accelerate the corrosion rate so that the efficiency of the anode is low.
