Abstract

Pembuatan filler crashbox membutuhkan material dengan sifat fisik dan mekanik yang unggul sebagai sistem keamanan bodi kendaraan saat terjadi kecelakaan kecepatan rendah. Aluminium (Al) foam merupakan material yang cocok digunakan karena memiliki nilai densitas rendah, kekuatan kompresi, dan mampu menyerap energi absorpsi dengan baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengoptimalkan sifat fisik dan mekanik paduan Al-Mg-Si foam dengan variasi komposisi foaming agent CaCO3 dan holding time artificial aging. Proses pengecoran dimulai dengan melelehkan paduan Al-Mg-Si kemudian ditambahkan foaming agent CaCO3 dan stabilizer Ca. Paduan Al-Mg-Si foam diberi perlakuan panas solution heat treatment pada temperatur 530 oC selama 100 menit dan didinginkan dengan media pendingin udara diikuti proses artificial aging pada temperatur 180 oC dengan variasi holding time artificial aging selama 8, 10, dan 12 jam. Spesimen Al-Mg-Si foam dianalisis dengan pengujian densitas,porositas, mikroskop stereo, XRD, SEM-EDX, dan kompresi.Nilai densitas tertinggi diperoleh dengan penambahan 1% CaCO3 yaitu 0,97 g/cm3, sementara nilai porositas dan rata-rata ukuran pori tertinggi diperoleh dengan penambahan 5% CaCO3 71,8% dan 0,36 mm. Penambahan 1% CaCO3 menghasilkan rata-rata kekuatan kompresi dan nilai absorpsi energi tertinggi yaitu 14,425 MPa dan 3,66 MJ/m3. Holding time artificial aging tidak berpengaruh terhadap sifat fisik paduan Al-Mg-Si foam. Semakin bertambahnya holding time artificial aging maka sifat mekanik yaitu kekuatan kompresi dan nilai absorpsi energi bertambah dimana holding time artificial aging yang paling optimal yaitu 12 jam dengan nilai kekuatan kompresi 17,94 Mpa dan absorpsi energi 4,197 MJ/m3.

The manufacture of crash box filler requires materials with superior physical and mechanical properties as a vehicle body safety system in the event of a low-speed accident. Aluminum (Al) foam is a suitable material for use because it has a low-density value, compressive strength, and can absorb absorption energy well. This study aims to optimize the physical and mechanical properties of the Al-Mg-Si foam alloy with variations in the composition of the CaCO3 foaming agent and the holding time of artificial aging. The casting process begins by melting the Al-Mg-Si alloy and then adding CaCO3 foaming agent and Ca stabilizer. The Al-Mg-Si foam alloy was given a solution heat treatment at a temperature of 530 C for 100 minutes and cooled with air cooling media followed by an artificial aging process at a temperature of 180 C with variations in the holding time of artificial aging for 8, 10 and 12 hours. Al-Mg-Si foam specimens were analyzed by testing density, porosity, stereomicroscope, XRD, SEM-EDX, and compression. The highest density values were obtained by adding 1% CaCO3, namely 0.97 g/cm3, while the porosity and average values of the highest pore size were obtained with the addition of 5% CaCO3 71.8%, and 0.36 mm. The addition of 1% CaCO3 resulted in the highest average compressive strength and energy absorption values of 14.425 MPa and 3.66 MJ/m3. Holding time artificial aging does not affect the physical properties of the Al-Mg-Si foam alloy. The more holding time artificial aging increases, the more mechanical properties, namely compression strength and energy absorption values increase where the most optimal holding time artificial aging is 12 hours with a compressive strength value of 17.94 MPa and energy absorption of 4.197 MJ/m3.
