Abstract

The main challenge in the CaCl2 production process is the use of energy through high steam consumption during the process of concentrating CaCl2 through the evaporation process. In a calcium chloride industry, the evaporation process is carried out using a Single-Effect Evaporator (SEE). The steam in the evaporation process is supplied from the utility at 134oC steam temperature and 1 atm pressure with steam consumption reaching 4.528 tons/hour. Therefore, efficiency is needed to reduce steam consumption to support the energy saving process. The efficiency and optimization process in the evaporator unit will be carried out through 2 scenarios to get the best results in the steam consumption efficiency process. Scenario 1 for the efficiency and optimization of the evaporator unit with the addition of MVR and scenario 2 for the efficiency and optimization of the evaporator unit through pre-heating of inlet material and the addition of MVR. The most optimal results are achieved in scenario 2 which can reduce the steam consusim load by 80% from the existing conditions. In addition, from an economic analysis, scenario 2 is also more profitable for the company because it reduces the value of BEP, POT and increases RoR which is quite good compared to the existing and scenario 1. So that by considering several aspects of the existing analysis, scenario 2 is an efficient step and optimization of the evaporator unit in the calcium chloride (CaCl2) production process.
