Abstract

Classroom acoustics for children with autism need special treatment because
children with autism are sensitive to high noise frequency. Unfortunately inclusive
school located in heavy traffic surrounding, in which noise will bother the
concentration of autism children and learning activities.
Objectives of this research is to evaluate the classroom acoustic quality used
for children with autism, which is influenced by traffic noise and facade material. It is
aimed also to propose the new design classrooms for autism children to improve
acoustic quality to meet their needs. Research is consist of field data collection by
measurement of acoustic performance and simulation. Parameter investigated in this
research are Background Noise Level (BNL), Transmission Loss (TL) and
Reverberation Time (RT).
There is no available requirements of Noise Criteria (NC) and RT for
classroom with autism. In this research those value are obtained by approach
condition autism childrento noise and acoustic requirements for each room. The r
equirements NC is NC 15-20 and RT is 04 -06 seconds. Acoustic quality is obtained
by reduce noise through the facade capabilities and absorption of receiver room. The
best noise reduction is 62.02dB and RT ability is 0,53 seconds (frequency 500Hz -
1KHz). The best value is obtained by combine both of fasade material and absorption
of receiver room. Best combine materials are Double Brick Cavity Plaster, rubber,
plastic, plywood and cork. The classroom with replenishment absorption material
percentage of 4 %, reduce value of RT for 0.8 seconds.
