Abstract

Observation about comparison methods of
permanganometry and serimetry to determine the concentration of
iron (II) has been done. This study was conducted to obtain the
titration method which is more effective to determine
concentration of iron (II). The concentration of iron (II) is
observed on the solution of Fe (II) with a known concentration.
The iron (II) concentration of solution is 5 ppm. Measurements
were made by titrating a solution of Fe (II) 5 ppm by using two
different methods that’s named permanganometry and serimetry.
In the permanganometry method, the solution of 5 ppm Fe (II) is
titrated using the solution of permanganate, while the serimetry
method, solution of Fe (II) is titrated using the solution of Ce
(IV). The Iron Concentration which is measured by the
permanganometry method is 4.8561 ppm and % recovery as
97.122%, while the iron concentration which is measured by the
serimetry method is 4.8649 ppm and % recovery as 97.298%.
This shows that both methods are equally good in determining the
content of Fe (II).
