Abstract

Regression is one of the statistics methods that can be applied in longitudinal data to analyze the relationship between response and predictor variables. First step in regression analysis is plotting the data to investigate the pattern form of the relationship between response and predictor variables. Once the pattern relationship form known, parametric approach would be the best choice. However, when the pattern relationship is not known, nonparametric regression is more appropriate to be applied if the relationship pattern form is unknown because of it’s flexibility. Spline truncated is one of approaches in nonparametric regression that is often applied as an easier way in the model interpretation. The advantage of spline truncated approach is availability of knot points that will follow the data behaviour. But, the more knot points used in model will effect to complexity of the model. It requires the best method to select the optimal knot points in spline regression. One method in selecting optimal knot points in truncated spline regression is Generalized Cross Validation (GCV). The aim of this paper is to review the formula of selecting optimal knot points in spline truncated nonparametric regression for longitudinal data using GCV. The next aim is to apply spline truncated nonparametric regression for the data of economic growth in Kalimantan Island. The most appropriate truncated spline model for data of economic growth in Kalimantan Island is a truncated spline regression model with combination knots points 1-2-1-1. The GCV value of the model is about 1,93913.
