Abstract

wilayah Provinsi Jawa Timur.

Hirarchical Linear Models (HLM) is one of multilevel statistics analysis which is
the development of linier regression analysis on singular data, where the data are
hierarchy structured or tiered. The dependent variable is measured on level-1 or on the
lowest level only, while independent variable is measured on level-1 and on the higher
level. This research used data from Riskesdas and Susenas on 2013 in the East Java
Province. The amount of the sample used were 54.101 individual on 38 districts/cities in
East Java. Those data were connected with the obesity which is an abnormal condition or
an excessive accumulation of fats on the adipose tissue. The physical activity influences
the central obesity especially on the abdominal circumference. The fruit consumption
(X1), vegetable consumption (X2) and the expenditure of vegetable (Z1) and fruit (Z2)
purchases are also predicted influences the abdominal circumference (Y) itself. In order
to increase the status of people’s health, a study of factors that influence the abdominal
circumference is needed, also as one of the central obesity indicator. The analysis on this
research used Hierarchical Linear Models to study those factors using the Generalized
Least Square (GLS) estimation approach. The result of the parameter estimation HLM
level 1 wasβˆ  (X'V1X)1X'V1y , while for level 2 was ˆ  ( ' 1 )1 ' 1 kj γ ZV Z ZV β . The result
of the application of the case study using the GLS approach on hierarchical linier model
to discover the factors above, for level 1 (individual), the result was each district/city has
different significant variable and were formed as many as 4 groups to ease the
interpretation. The Group 1 had only the age variable (X1) which was significant, Group 2
had the age (X1) and the vegetable (X3) variable which were significant, Group 3 had the
significant age (X1) and fruit consumption (X2), and the last Group had the whole
significant variable (X1, X2 dan X3) that influenced the abdominal circumference (Y).
While on level 2, the significant variable that influenced the abdominal circumference
itself were the age, where that variable was influenced by the expenses of the vegetable
(Z1) and fruit (Z2) purchases.
