Abstract

Water is one of the primary resources for life. The development of border areas between Lumajang District and Probolinggo District now has affected physical, environmental, economic, social and cultural conditions. Regional growth is usually followed by increased water resources exploitation. Utilization of underground water continues to increase along with the development of agricultural activities, plantation, processing of fields and the fulfillment of housing needs. Although this may cause drought, it can be anticipated by classifying potential water sources based on the Geographic Information System (GIS) method.
Classification of potential water sources is the result based on overlay of potential water source map from the result of determination of value by scoring method of classification of each parameter with map of potency of springs from result of analysis from various parameters which have been determined.
From the results of data processing the potential water source map is divided into two, namely the highest potential water source potential of December and the highest potential water source in August where the highest potential is owned by Banyuanyar Sub-District Probolinggo District with an area of 33,817 km2 during the highest rainfall and the lowest potential is in Tiris Sub-District Probolinggo District with an area of 110,193 km2 during the lowest rainfall. The area that has the potential of the spring is only found in the Sub-District of Tiris with five potential points of water springs.
