Abstract

Dengan semakin menurunnya cadangan bijih nikel sulfida saat ini, perhatian mengenai pengolahan bijih nikel laterit semakin meningkat dalam upaya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan nikel yang semakin meningkat. Pengolahan nikel laterit dengan cara reduksi menggunakan karbon terbukti dapat menghasilkan paduan feronikel dengan kadar tinggi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan mereduksi bijih nikel laterit kadar rendah (limonit) dengan kadar nikel 1,25%. Proses reduksi dilakukan dengan menggunakan gas CO hasil reaksi antara batubara dan dolomit. Pembentukan briket campuran bijih limonit, batubara, dan Na2SO4 yang dimasukkan pada crucible bed bersama dengan dolomit yang kemudian direduksi pada temperatur 1400 oC dengan variasi waktu tahan 4, 6, dan 8 jam. Pengujian EDX ,XRD, dan SEM dilakukan untuk mengetahui kadar Ni dan Fe hasil reduksi fasa- fasa yang terbentuk dan morfologi pada hasil reduksi. Dari hasil reduksi didapatkan bahwa peningkatan kadar Ni tertinggi didapat dengan waktu tahan 8 jam dengan peningkatan 5,84 % ,dan recovery Ni yang paling tinggi didapatkan dengan waktu tahan 6 jam sebesar 88,51 %. Sedangkan peningkatan kadar Fe tertinggi didapat dengan waktu tahan 4 jam dengan peningkatan 24,7%, dan recovery Fe paling tinggi didapat dengan waktu tahan 4 jam sebesar 85,41%

With the depletion of nickel sulfide ore resources, the nickel laterit processing become an attention to fulfill nickel world demans. Processing laterite nickel by using a low cost carbonaceous reductan has proved produces high grade ferronickel alloy. This research reduction was carried out to low grade lateritie nickel (limonit) with 1,25% nikel grade by using CO gas reductant formed by reaction between coal and dolomite. Reduction process preceded by forming brickets mixture from limonit ore, coal, and Na2SO4 , then the brickets placed inside crucible bed together with dolomit and reduced at temperature 1400 oC with holding time variations 4, 6, and 8 hours. EDX , XRD, and SEM test were carried out to find out the Ni and nickel grade after reduced, the phases that formed , and the morphology brickets after reduced. The reduction results shows that the highest increase on nickel grade was obtained by 8 hours holding time increasing 5,84 % from initial grade, and the highest recovery was obtained by 6 hours holding time with recovery 88,51 %.While the higest increase on Fe grade was obtained by 4 hours holding time, and the highest recovery Fe was obtained by 4 hours holding time with recovery 85,41%.
