Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pembuatan silika aerogel berbahan dasar water glass dengan metode freeze drying, serta mengetahui pengaruh pH, konsentrasi, serta jenis katalis organik terhadap karakteristik silika aerogel yang dihasilkan. Metode yang digunakan pada sintesa ini adalah metode fisika-kimia dengan pemanasan, pendinginan dan penambahan bahan kimia yaitu asam organik atau basa organik. Pada penelitian terhadap pengaruh pH dan jenis katalis, Water glass komersial diencerkan kedalam aquades dengan perbandingan 1:10. Larutan sodium silikat dititrasi menggunakan katalis asam organik (Asam Sitrat, Asam Oksalat) dengan range pH 7-9, serta katalis basa organik (Resin Kationik + Ammonium Hidroksida) dengan range pH 4-5. Larutan kemudian di aging selama 18 jam sehingga terbentuk hydrogel silika. Sampel hydrogel dikeringkan dengan metode freeze drying hingga didapatkan aerogel silika. Sampel aerogel yang dihasilkan dicuci dengan aquades lalu dikeringkan untuk mendapatkan aerogel silika yang lebih murni. Pada penelitian terhadap pengaruh konsentrasi water glass, Water glass komersial diencerkan kedalam aquades dengan variabel perbandingan 1:5, 1:7.5, dan 1:10. Larutan sodium silikat dititrasi menggunakan katalis basa organik (Resin Kationik + Ammonium Hidroksida) dengan range pH 4. Larutan kemudian di aging selama 18 jam sehingga terbentuk hydrogel silika. Sampel hydrogel dikeringkan dengan metode freeze drying hingga didapatkan aerogel silika. Sampel aerogel yang dihasilkan dicuci dengan aquades lalu dikeringkan untuk mendapatkan aerogel silika yang lebih murni. Sampel aerogel yang dihasilkan dikarakterisasi menggunakan alat BET (Brunauer- Emmet-Teller), dan SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). Dari hasil penelitian pengaruh karakteristik aerogel silika terhadap pengaruh pH dan jenis katalis, maka didapatkan bahwa range luas permukaan yang didapatkan berkisar pada 79~539 m2/g, dengan range volume pori sebesar 0,01~0,33 cm3/g, dan diameter pori sebesar 3,4~10,4 nm. Dari hasil penelitian pengaruh karakteristik aerogel silika terhadap pengaruh konsentrasi water glass, maka didapatkan bahwa range luas permukaan yang didapatkan berkisar pada 294~539 m2/g, dengan range volume pori sebesar 0,15~0,25 cm3/g. dan diameter pori sebesar 3,4~4,3 nm. Dari penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa karakteristik silika aerogel terbaik didapatkan pada katalis Basa Organik (Resin Kationik + Amonium Hidroksida) pada pH 4 dengan luas permukaan 539 m2/g, volume pori 0,25 cm3/g, dan diameter pori 3,4 nm (mesopori). ======================================================================================================================== This research aims to study the synthesis of water glass - based aerogel silica using freeze drying method, and to know the effect of pH, concentration, and type of organic catalyst on the resulting silica aerogel characteristics. The method used in this synthesis is a physico - chemical method with heating, cooling and addition of chemicals, namely organic acids or organic bases. The research of the effect of pH and catalyst type, commercial water glass was diluted into aquadest at a ratio of 1:10. The sodium silicate solution was titrat ed using an organic acid catalyst (Citric Acid, Oxalic Acid) with a pH range of 7 - 9, as well as an organic base catalyst (Cationic Resin + Ammonium Hydroxide) with a pH range of 4 - 5. The solution was then aged for 18 hours to form silica hydrogel. Hydrogel samples were dried by freeze drying method until silica aerogel was obtained. The resulting aerogel sample was washed with aquadest then dried to obtain more pure silica aerogel. The research of the effect of water glass concentration, commercial water gl ass was diluted into aquadest with variables of 1: 5, 1: 7.5, and 1:10. The sodium silicate solution was titrated using an organic base catalyst (Cationic Resin + Ammonium Hydroxide) with a pH range of 4. The solution was then aged for 18 hours to form sil ica hydrogel. Hydrogel samples were dried by iv freeze drying method until silica aerogel was obtained. The resulting aerogel sample was washed with aquadest then dried to obtain more pure silica aerogel. The resulting aerogel samples were characterized using a BET (Brunauer - Emmet - Teller) tool, and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). From the result of the research, the effect of silica aerogel characteristic to the effect of pH and catalyst type, it was found that the surface area obtained ranged from 79 ~ 53 9 m2 / g, with pore volume ranged from 0.01 ~ 0.33 cm3 / g, and pore diameter of 3.4 ~ 10.4 nm. From the result of the research, the effect of silica aerogel characteristic to the influence of water glass concentration, it is found that the surface area ob tained ranged from 294 ~ 539 m2 / g, with pore volume range 0,15 ~ 0,25 cm3 / g, and pore diameter of 3.4 ~ 4.3 nm. From this research, it can be concluded that the best aerogel silica characteristics are obtained from organic base catalyst (Resin Cationic + Ammonium Hydroxide) at pH 4 with surface area 539 m2 / g, pore volume 0.25 cm3 / g, and pore diameter of 3.4 nm (mesopore).
