Abstract

Peristiwa korosi merupakan salah satu fenomena dimana suatu material logam mengalami penurunan mutu. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh reaksi elektrokimia dengan lingkungannya. Terdapat beberapa faktor yang dapat menyebabkan hal tersebut antara lain temperatur, pH, kecepatan aliran fluida, dan pengaruh konsentrasi media korosi. Disisi lain juga terdapat banyak metode yang digunakan untuk mencegah terjadinya korosi. Salah satu contohnya yaitu dengan menggunakan inhibitor. Inhibitor dibagi menjadi dua jenis antara lain inhibitor organik dan non-organik. Sekarang ini banyak penelitian yang mengembangkan inhibitor khususnya inhibitor organik. Hal tersebut dikarenakan sifat dari inhibitor organik yang tidak beracun, ramah lingkungan, dan dapat diperbaharui. Berbeda dengan inhibitor non-organik yang bersifat toxic (racun) dan dapat mencemari lingkungan sekitar. Inhibitor organik diperoleh dengan cara mengekstrak bahan-bahan yang sifatnya alamiah. Terdapat beberapa contoh untuk bahan yang dapat dijadikan sebagai inhibitor organik antara lain kulit buah pisang, kulit buah rambutan, daun mangga, dan daun pepaya. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengambil data laju korosi baja menggunakan metode weight loss dan electroplating. Media korosif menggunakan air laut buatan dengan salinitas 35 ‰. Laju korosi spesimen dengan menggunakan inhibitor daun mangga menghasilkan laju korosi paling kecil. Inhibitor daun mangga memiliki nilai laju korosi sebesar 0,040 mpy dengan efisiensi 84,357%. Kemudian untuk inhibitor daun pepaya memiliki laju korosi yang sedikit lebih besar yaitu 0,041 mpy dengan efisiensi inhibisi 84,235%. Spesimen dengan inhibitor kulit pisang memiliki nilai laju korosi sebesar 0,12282 mpy dengan efisiensi 52,533%. Nilai laju korosi yang dimiliki oleh inhibitor kulit rambutan memiliki nilai 0,1228 mpy dengan efisiensi sebesar 52,541%. Sedangkan, nilai laju korosi pada material tanpa inhibitor merupakan nilai terbesar bila dibandingkan yang lain yakni 0,25875 mpy.

Corrosion’s phenomenon is an accident of decreasing metal quality due to the electrochemical reaction with its environment. Many factors can cause corrosion of a material such as temperature, pH,velocity of fluids, and corrosion’s media concentration. There are many methods to prevent the corrosion process. One of them is corrosion inhibitors. Inhibitor divided into two types, there are organic inhibitor and non-organic inhibitor. The characteristics of organic inhibitor are non-toxic, inexpensive, readily available in nature, renewable and does not damage the environment. Different with non-organic inhibitor which the characteristics are toxic and damaged the environment. Organic inhibitor could be obtained by extracting some materials which exist in nature. In this experiment, inhibitor which are used from rambutan peel, banana peel, mango leaves and papaya leaves. The methods which used for analysis corrosion rate are weight loss and electroplating. The inhibitors used in materials steel pipe in artificial seawater media which has salinity’s level is 35 ‰. The lowest corrosion rate is from mango leaves with the result of corrosion rate is 0.040 mpy for carbon steel ASTM A53 and 84.357% for the efficiency of inhibitor. Then, for the result of corrosion rate with papaya leaves inhibitor is bigger than mango leaves. It takes 0.041 mpy for corrosion rate and 84.235% of inhibitor efficiency. The speciment which added with banana peel inhibitor has 0.12282 for corrosion rate result and 52.533% for efficiency of inhibitor. While the rambutan peel inhibitor has 0.1228 mpy for the value of corrosion rate and the efficiency reached 52.533%. For the corrosion rate with no inhibitor is 0.25875 mpy which used for variable control.
