Abstract

SPAR (Single Point Anchor Reservoir) is a building designed in the form of large and long cylinder. SPAR stability can be achieved with controlling the center of gravity (COG) of the building must be below its center of buoyancy (COB). Moreover, the mooring system is also added to the SPAR to limit the response of heave, pitch, and surge movements that occur due to any environmental loads. However, an optimal moor rope configuration is required to accommodate SPAR motion to keep the activity running on the deck undisturbed. In this study, an analytical, numerical, and experimental study of SPAR model (scale 1:125) was performed at the Hydrodynamics Laboratory ITS. This study performed on free and moored floating conditions with variation of fairlead position to the center of gravity (1.5 VCG, 1.25 VCG and 1 VCG) to find out the motion response in the form of RAO and tension response in the form of Tension Operator. Based on the results of the research, RAO motion model between free and tethered floating conditions has significant changes in each heave, pitch, and surge motions. In each variation of the fairlead position, the result shows that motion response and mooring tension decreases as the fairlead approaches the center of gravity. But the resonance frequency of the system changes consistently to the higher frequency from the variation 1.5 VCG to 1 VCG.
