Abstract

Rendahnya produktivitas bawang merah saat ini karena sedikitnya kultivar-kultivar unggul . Salah satu cara mendapatkan kultivar unggul adalah dengan induksi mutasi menggunakan Ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh EMS terhadap pertumbuhan umbi bawang merah. Penelitian ini menggunakan umbi yang direndam pada EMS dengan konsentrasi yang berbeda yaitu 0% (kontrol), 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5% selama 30 menit. Paramaeter yang diukur pada penelitian ini yaitu; tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, jumlah umbi,berat basah umbi, dan berat kering umbi. Pemberian EMS dengan berbagai konsentrasi memberikan pengaruh terhadap parameter tinggi tanaman, jumlah umbi dan berat basah umbi. Namun pemberian EMS tidak berpengaruh terhadap parameter jumlah daun dan berat kering. Tanaman dengan tinggi, berat basah dan jumlah umbi paling tinggi yaitu pada konsentrasi 0,1%, sedangkan paling rendah yaitu konsentrasi 0,5%.

The low productivity of onion is because at least superior cultivars. One way to get superior cultivars using mutation induction with Ethyl Methanesulfonate (EMS). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of EMS on the growth of onion bulb. This study uses bulb that soaked in EMS with different concentrations of 0% (control), 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, 0.5% for 30 minutes. Onion bulb are planted in polybags with growing media and soil compost with a ratio of 3: 1. This parameter being measured in this study is; plant height, leaf number, the number of bulb, bulbs fresh weight and dry weight of tubers. The method used in this research is the method of chemical mutagen EMS.Giving EMS with various concentrations gives effect to height plant, number of bulbs and wet bulb weight. However, EMS has no effect on the number of leaves and dry weight. Plants with high, wet weight and the highest number of bulbs at a concentration of 0.1%, while the lowest is 0.5% concentration.
