Abstract

Performansi turbin helical dapat ditingkatkan dengan cara
mengubah parameter desain turbin. Salah satu metode yang
dikembangkan yaitu dengan penambahan beberapa foil dalam satu
lengan turbin (cascade foil). Analisis tentang pengaruh jumlah foil
terhadap performansi turbin helical dengan cascade foil dilakukan
melalui simulasi numerik berbasis Computational Fluid Dynamics
(CFD). Simulasi dilakukan dengan variasi turbin helical (model I),
turbin helical cascade 2 foil (model II), dan turbin helical cascade 3
foil (model III) pada kecepatan arus air yaitu 0,5 m/s, 1 m/s, 1,5 m/s,
dan 2 m/s. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan turbin model III memiliki
performansi terbaik dibandingkan dengan turbin model I dan II.
Turbin model III mengalami peningkatan gaya dan torsi terhadap
turbin model I masing-masing sebesar 37,38-100,95% dan 43,87-
111,77% pada kecepatan arus air 0,5-2 m/s. Turbin model II dan
model III mendapatkan distribusi tekanan dan kecepatan arus air
pada masing-masing foil sehingga tekanan total dan kecepatan arus
air total yang diterima bernilai lebih besar dibandingkan dengan
turbin model I.

The performance of helical turbine could be improved by
modifying the design parameter of a turbine. One of the improvement
methods is by adding some turbine foil in one arm (cascade foil).
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of the number of foil
effects on the performance of helical turbine with cascade foil by
numerical simulation was conducted. On this research, helical turbine
(model I) was modified into helical turbine with 2 cascade foil (model
II) and helical turbine with 3 cascade foil (model III). Each model was
simulated on various water current velocity of 0.5 m/s, 1 m/s, 1.5 m/s
and 2 m/s. The simulation results showed that the turbine with model
III has the best performance compared to model I and II turbine. The
model III turbine produced higher output force by 37.38-100.95% and
higher output torque by 43.87-111.77% compared to the model I
turbine at water current velocity of 0.5-2 m/s. The model II and III
turbine acquired the pressure and water current velocity distribution
in each foil. Thus, the total pressure and total water current velocity
received were higher than the model I turbine.
