Abstract

Pipa expansion (U-loop) merupakan alternatif yang digunakan untuk menurunkan dan menjaga tekanan fluida pada kondisi desain. Penurunan tekanan fluida ini mengakibatkan terjadi beberapa fenomena pada instalasi pipa expansion (U-loop) antara lain tegangan, serta aliran fluida. Studi ini ditujukan untuk mengevaluasi karakteristik aliran fluida yang terjadi didalam instalasi pipa expansion (U-loop. Studi ini dilakukan secara pemodelan numerik dengan memodelkan bentuk geometri exsisting pada instalasi pipa expansion (U-loop) dengan material carbon steel berdiameter pipa 10” Sch. 80 standart ANSI B36.10. Studi ini dibantu dengan program lunak ANSYS 11 yang berbasis finite element methode. Dari hasil simulasi yang dilakukan didapatkan aliran turbulen yang terjadi pada elbow dapat menyebabkan getaran pipa, akibat aliran fluida tersebut tegangan yang terjadi masih dibawah batas maksimum yang diijinkan sebesar 42,3 Mpa. Sehingga adanya sistem pipa expansion (Uloop) dapat dijadikan pilihan alternatif yang lebih efisien untuk meningkatkan serta menjaga integritas sistem secara keseluruhan. ==================================================================================================== Pipe expansion (U-loop) is an alternative that is used to lower and maintain the fluid pressure at design conditions. This resulted in a decrease in fluid pressure occurs several phenomena on the installation of the pipe expansion (U-loop) among others stress and fluid flow. This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of the fluid flow that occurs in the installation of the pipe expansion (U-loop. The study was carried out numerical modeling by modeling the geometrical form exsisting on the installation of the pipe expansion (U-loop) with material of carbon steel diameter pipe 10 "Sch. 80 ANSI B36.10 standards. the study was supported by the ANSYS software program 11 based finite element method. From the results of the simulation obtained turbulent flow that occurs in the elbow can cause vibration of the pipe , due to the fluid flow is still below the voltage that occurs the maximum allowable limit of 42.3 Mpa . So that the pipe system expansion ( U - loops ) can be used as a more efficient alternative options to enhance and maintain the integrity of the overall system
