Abstract

Asam galat menunjukkan penghambatan antioksidan melalui
DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl hydrate) dan ABTS (2,2’-azinobis (3-ethyl
benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) drazyl hydrate)

Syzygium polyanthum is a herbal medicine which is grown in South East
Asia. In this study, 3,4,5-trihydroxy-benzoic acid and benzofuran compound
puranol were isolated from methanol extract of S. polyanthum by extraction,
partition and chromatography methods. The chemical structures were determined
by using 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic data. Antidiabetic activity was
done with α-glucosidase showed that gallic acid could be active as antidiabetic.
Activity of gallic acid as antidiabetic closely related to its antioxidant activity.
Gallic acid showed antioxidant inhibition on DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-2-
picrylhydrazyl hydrate) and ABTS (2,2’-azinobis (3-ethyl benzothiazoline-6-
sulfonic acid)
