Abstract

============== Rapid industrial developments have brought new challenges for the quality improvement in industrial competition. The best quality is always maintained by PT X as the largest FMCG company in Indonesia. Packaging is an integral part of product presentation to attract consumer. Quality and innovation of packaging are as important as the product itself. One of the quality characteristics of toothpaste carton packaging is skewing, which is measured by the angle and gap skewness of the cardboard. Skewing process optimization is influenced by several factors i.e. glue temperature, glue pressure, height of guide folding, carton varnish concentration, and carton UV intensity. In this research, the angle and gap skewness of the carton will be optimized through various set factors experiment. The optimal experimental design was obtained using Taguchi method with desirability function approach. The results show that height of guide folding, glue temperature, and glue pressure contributed significantly to the effect of skewing. The optimum conditions were obtained by applying the 150C glue temperature setting, 2 bar glue pressure, 8.3 mm guide folding height, 260 Cps carton varnish concentration, and UV intensity with 3 lamps.
