Abstract

Baja API 5 L adalah salah satu jenis baja karbon yang sering digunakan dalam industri minyak dan gas. Permasalahan yang umum terjadi pada industri migas salah satunya adalah korosi. Upaya untuk mengendalikan korosi pada pipa dalam industri migas adalah dengan menambahkan inhibitor. Inhibitor organik adalah inhibitor yang murah dan ramah lingkungan. Tetapi kelemahannya adalah tidak bekerja secara maksimal pada temperatur tinggi, sehingga tidak digunakan pada aplikasi industri migas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh penambahan kalium iodide dalam inhibitor sarang semut terhadap laju korosi baja API 5 L Grade B dengan variasi temperature 30, 50 dan 70OC di larutan HCl 1 M. Untuk mempelajari pengaruh penambahan Kalium Iodida dalam inhibitor Sarang Semut tersebut maka dilakukan serangkaian pengujian diantaranya adalah FTIR, weight loss, polarisasi tafel, dan EIS. Dari hasil uji weight loss diperoleh laju korosi terendah adalah saat penambahan campuran inhibitor sarang semut dengan kalium iodida pada konsentrasi masing-masing sebanyak 5gr/L di temperatur 30, 50 dan 70OC yaitu sebesar 0,014 mpy, 0,056 mpy dan 0,125 mpy. Dengan efisiensi secara berurutan yaitu 92,15%, 89,96% dan 87,36%. Mekanisme inhibisi inhibitor cenderung bersifat fisisorpsi berdasarkan hasil perhitungan adsorpsi isothermal Langmuir.

API 5L steel is one of the type of carbon steel that is often used in the oil and gas industry. The most common problems in oil and gas industry are corrosion. One of the efforts to control the corrosion of pipes in the oil and gas industry is to add inhibitors. Organic inhibitors are inhibitors that are inexpensive and environmentally friendly. The disadvantage is that inhibitors do not work maximally at high temperatures, so it not used in oil and gas industry applications. This study aims to study the effect of potassium iodide addition in sarang semut inhibitor on corrosion rate of API 5 L Grade B steel with temperature variation 30, 50 and 70OC in 1 M HCl solution. To study the effect of the addition of potassium iodide in sarang semut inhibitors, some testing performed, that are FTIR, weight loss, polarization tafel, and EIS. From the weight loss test results obtained the lowest corrosion rate is when the addition of mixture of sarang semut inhibitor with potassium iodide with concentration of each 5gr/L in temperature 30, 50 and 70OC that is equal to 0,014 mpy, 0,056 mpy and 0,125 mpy. With efficiency in sequence that is 92,15%, 89,96% and 87,36%. The mechanism of inhibition inhibitors tends to be fisisorption based on the calculation of Langmuir isotherm adsorption.
