Abstract

=========================================================
The depletion of world oil reserves and the issue of emissions from fossil fuels requires each country to produce and use renewable energy immediately. Biogas as an alternative energy source has several advantages over fossil fuel, which is environmentally friendly and can be compromised. Water hyacinth is a type of weed that has lignocellulosic content is large enough to potentially produce biogas. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of pre-treatment on water hyacinth ingredients with the addition of NaOH 0,5N and without NaOH and, know the influence of composition of water hyacinth and water mixture with ratio 1: 2 and 1: 3 to biogas production produced at reactor Plugflow.
Research begins with the preparation stage of raw materials, raw materials selected are water hyacinth and cow dung. The second stage is mixing cow dung and water with a ratio of 1: 1 and then put it into the reactor as a starter. Next is to destroy water hyacinth using crusher tool and then do pre-treatment on raw water hyacinth by heating it in a solution of 0.5N NaOH at a temperature of 100oC. Last is the fermentation stage by inserting raw water hyacinth into the plugflow reactor. The resultant gas emitted from the reactor is accommodated in a tubular plastic, and the resulting biogas volume is measured using a measuring cup
From the research result, the average biogas production on the 1: 2 and 1: 3 raw material dilution variation is 9983,33 ml and 7172 ml with the composition respectively 45,024% CH4, 11,508% CO2, 0,86% H2S, 0 , 3% NH3 and 35.253% CH4, 12.412% CO2, 0.962% H2S, 0.345% NH3. The average production of biogas in pre-treatment variation of raw material with heating of 100oC without NaOH and heating of 100oC + NaOH 0.5N is 11853.33 ml and 9110 ml of biogas composition produced in each variable is 50,197% CH4,12,357% CO2 , 0.639% H2S and 0.334% NH3. and 54.125% CH4, 12.357% CO2, 0.913% H2S and 0.425% NH3. So it can be concluded that the addition of appropriate levels and the addition of NaOH can increase the volume of biogas and methane levels in biogas produced.
