Abstract

============================================================
Curriculum mining is emerging research to assess students’ learning behavior during the study period compared to the curriculum guidelines. Existing research has been developed, sequence matching alignment approach to check the conformity of students’ learning behavior with curriculum guidelines. Another research, the data formed in the cluster to create clusters’ profile that can be seen the difference between one cluster with another, either by GPA or students’ learning behaviors. However, both studies have not been able to see the migration and changes in students’ learning behavior from semester to semester. In fact, throughout the study period, students may changes in the course taking for each semester. This is an important thing to be observed by the managers of the department to find out in the semester how many students have changed the characteristics of taking the course and how its impact on student achievement. Cluster evolution analysis (CEA) is a method for processing and analyzing timely data. This method can identify migration patterns from one cluster to another from time to time. So in this research Sequence Matching Analysis data will be processed and analyzed using CEA method so it becomes a new method. The clustering method used is k-means algorithm. The algorithm is chosen because it is an algorithm that uses the centroid in the clustering process required in one of the CEA processes.
The cluster of students formed from the pattern of course taking has a different number of cluster each semester. In the early and late semesters have fewer student clusters than the mid semester. Students migrate from a group of course-taking patterns may improve, preservation or decline in the meaning of conformity with curriculum guideline. Students who graduate on time tend to have improved and steady group migrations, whereas drop out students tend to have constant and declining group migrations.
