Abstract

Today plastic polypropylene (PP) type in Indonesia is very often used. The problem that arises from this type of plastic is the waste produced. Reuse of this type of waste is also very rare. It is known that the polypropylene itself comes from propylene monomers obtained from refining petroleum. By mixing polypropylene plastic waste in diesel fuel can be a solution to reuse the waste. This study was conducted using 4 variations of fuel in the form of mixture between polypropylene and HSD (BP4) fuel, emulsion between BP4 with water (BE2), HSD wlingi, and pertamina dexlite. This research is based on experiments to analyze the impact of using these 4 variations of fuel on the performance, emissions and combustion processes in diesel engines. Based on the results of the analysis of diesel engine performance. Diesel engine performance is viewed from SFOC, power, and torque produced by each fuel. The best performance test results in this study in sequence are HSD Wlingi, dexlite owned by Pertamina, BP4, and finally BE2. For the results of the combustion process the lowest ignition delay value is owned by HSD Wlingi while BE2 has the highest value. In terms of BE2 knock detection produces the highest value. Then BE2 still produces higher NOx and CO emissions than dexlite pertamina.
