Abstract

Fabrikasi membran PVA/kitosan-montmorilonit dengan ikat silang asam sulfat untuk diaplikasikan dalam Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) telah berhasil dilakukan. Komposisi PVA/kitosan (3:1) divariasi dengan penambahan montmorilonit sebanyak 1% 2% dan 4% untuk menghasilkan membran komposit PVA/CS-MMT 1%, PVA/CS-MMT 2% serta PVA/CS-MMT 4%. Membran yang telah berhasil disintesis tersebut kemudian dikarakterisasi menggunakan FTIR, TGA, dan uji tarik. Membran PVA/CS-MMT 2% menunjukkan kestabilan termal paling baik dengan persen berat yang hilang sebesar 65,47%. Sedangkan membran PVA/CS-MMT 2% juga menunjukkan kekuatan mekanik yang paling baik dengan nilai modulus elastisitas sebesar 172.2 MPa. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penambahan montmorilonit hingga 2% meningkatkan kekuatan mekanik dan ketahanan termal dari membran.
==================================================================== PVA/Chitosan-Montmorillonite membranes crosslinked sulfuric acid for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell application have been fabricated. Membranes were prepared by the composition of PVA/Chitosan (3:1) varied with montmorillonite (1%, 2%, and 4%) and crosslinked 2N sulfuric acid to produced PVA/chitosan-montmotillonite composite membranes. The properties of the membrane were characterized by FTIR, TGA and tensile testing. The membrane PVA/chitosan-mmt 2% is the best membrane with thermal properties with weight loss 65,47%. PVA/chitosan-mmt 2% is also the best membrane with mechanical properties with modulus elasticity 172.2 MPa. This showed that adding montmorillonite composition until 2% increase the mechanical and thermal properties.
