Abstract

Perkembangan zaman yang cepat sangat membutuhkan
material baru yang memiliki sifat-sifat unggul. Material yang
digunakan pun diharuskan memiliki ketentuan tertentu untuk
memenuhi kebutuhan. Dengan berkembangnya ilmu
pengetahuan dan teknologi seperti di bidang komposit dapat
menjadi alternatif untuk permasalahan yang timbul dan dapat
memenuhi karakteristik dan sifat mekanik tertentu sesuai yang
diinginkan.
Dalam studi ini, Aluminium dicairkan hingga suhu 900oC
dalam furnace. Alumina sebagai penguat ditambahkan saat
aluminium dalam keadaan cair, kemudian diaduk selama 10
menit dengan putaran 300 rpm. Aluminium matrix composite
dibuat dengan metode stir casting. Pengujian yang dilakukan
adalah pengujian kekerasan, keausan dan struktur mikro.
Hasil yang didapatkan adalah nilai kekerasan meningkat
hingga 20 % dan menurun pada 25 % volume fraksi alumina.
Peningkatan nilai kekerasan disebabkan penyisipan partikel
alumina didalam matriks aluminium sedangkan penurunan nilai
kekerasan diakibatkan lubang bekas melekatnya alumina yang
mempermudah dislokasi. Nilai laju keausan menurun hingga
kadar 20% dan meningkat pada kadar 25% volume fraksi alumina. Penurunan nilai laju keausan disebabkan ikatan
interface yang terbentuk antara matriks dan penguat.

Rapid development period needs of new materials
preeminent. The materials used are required to have specific
provisions to met the needs. The development of science and
technology in composites could be an alternative for the problems
that occured, can meet the characteristics and mechanical
properties as desired.
In this study, Aluminum melted in the furnace to a
temperature of 900°C. Alumina as an reinforcement is added
when the aluminum in the liquid state, and then stirred for 10
minutes at 300 rpm rotation. Aluminum matrix composites
prepared by stir casting method. This experiment is for micro
structure, hardness test and wear test.
The result is the hardness value increased by 20% and
decreased at 25% volume fraction of alumina. The increasing of
hardness value due to the insertion of alumina particles in an
aluminum matrix, while decreasing the hardness value is caused
by holes that ease dislocation. Value wear rate decreased to
levels of 20% and increased the levels of 25% volume fraction of
alumina. Decreasing specific wear rate caused the interface
bonding formed between matrix and reinforcement. Increasing in
value is due to the wear rate of alumina particles in spite of the
aluminium matrix.
