Abstract

Preheating or early warming is heating the whole/partial objects before welding to reduce the heat difference between the weld area with the surrounding area. Preheating before welding process aims to stabilize the specimen so that it does not happen because of the heat welding defects that arise at a time when welding.
The research method used was experimental research, which aims to find out the cause and effect based on the treatment provided by the researchers. In this study, the treatment given by the researchers was welding with preheating temperature variations. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of preheating temperature on welding GTAW results against macros etching and A36 steel tensile strength.
Welding is done by the method of steel materials on GTAW A36 with a filler/filler ER70S-6 using A 180 with flow Model using the bevel shape groove with the bevel angle is 30°. Temperature variations that are used in this research is room temperature (without preheating) 50°C, 125°C, and 200°C.
From the results of testing the macro visible HAZ, etching on non preheat material has small of wide HAZ while preheat 200°C material have a width of HAZ. On testing Tensile Test results obtained the greatest tensile strength occurred in specimens of preheat temperature 200°C of 63.523 Kgf/mm2. Whereas the lowest tensile strength values occur in specimens with a non-preheat treatment namely of 49.554 Kgf/mm2.
