Abstract

Hampir 72% - 80% penduduk Indonesia dan 60% - 90%
penduduk dunia menurut WHO mengalami gigi berlubang. Hal ini
memicu meningkatnya permintaan akan jumlah material yang berfungsi
untuk tambal gigi. Bertolak dari peluang tersebut, pada penelitian ini
mencoba untuk mengembangkan alternatif material tambal gigi yang
terbuat dari hasil daur ulang limbah organik berupa chitosan, calcium
carbonate, carbonate-hydroxyapatite {CH-CaCO3-(C-HA)} yang
berasal dari limbah kulit udang, kulit telur, dan tulang sapi serta
menggunakan MMA (Methyl Metacrylate) sebagai matriks pengikat
bahan – bahan tersebut. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah dengan
mencari pengaruh variasi komposisi dari perbandingan {CH-CaCO3-(CHA)-
MMA} yang berupa filler dan matrix. Berdasarkan pengujian
SEM-EDAX diperoleh morfologi sample yang dense, berdasarkan
pengujian FTIR dan XRD diperoleh gugus fungsi yang terdiri dari bahan
penyusun sample, hasil TGA-DSC menunjukkan ketahanan thermal
sample yang baik di temperatur lebih dari 300 0C pada semua sample
dan konduktivitas thermal mencapai 0,86 pada temperature rata – rata
460C pada sample G5050 dan G7525. Kemampuan mekanik tertinggi
dimiliki sample G7525 dengan nilai kekerasan 88,04 VHN. Hasil uji
antibacterial dengan menggunakan bakteri streptococcus mutans juga
menunjukkan hasil yang positif pada semua sample dengan zona hambat
sama atau lebih besar dari 1mm. Dari seluruh hasil pengujian yang
diperoleh maka material chitosan, calcium carbonate, carbonatehydroxyapatite
{CH-CaCO3-(C-HA)} yang berasal dari limbah kulit
udang, kulit telur, dan tulang sapi serta menggunakan MMA (Methyl
Metacrylate) berpotensi digunakan sebagai dental filler. ========== Almost 72% - 80% of Indonesian people and 60% - 90%
people in the world have dental cavities case, according to WHO data.
This problem causes increasing the demand of dental filler material. In
order to minimize the discomfort of patient from the allergic dental filler
material, this study focus on the novel approaches to the development of
dental filler consist of chitosan(C), calcium carbonate (CaCO3), and
carbonate-hydroxyapatite (C-HA) from biowaste recycle combine with
methyl methacrylate (MMA). Effect variation of composition was
investigated into several characterizations and analysis. The morphology
analysis which investigated by Scanning electron microscope (SEM)
show the dense structure for all the sample. Moreover, chemical
composition and phase analysis measured by FTIR, XRD and EDX,
respectively show the same trend between control and all the sample. In
order to investigate the thermal behavior and thermal conductivity of the
sample, TGA/DSC is used and the results showed a good thermal
properties for all sample, and especially for G50050 and G7525 have
thermal conductivity 0,86W/mK when measured at 460C. Due to the
mechanical properties investigation the compression and hardness test
conducted and the best result is showed by sample code G7525 with
88,04 VHN. In addition, antibacterial testing determine the effectiveness
to avoid bacterial (streptococcus mutans) growth by the effect of
chitosan show a good result. All the sample have a good antibacterial
with inhibition zone equals or greater than 1mm. Overall, chitosan,
calcium carbonate, carbonate-hydroxyapatite, and MMA can be a potential dental filler due to its mechanical, chemical, and antibacterial
properties.
